Jeppesen ForeFlight – from paper charts to the digital cockpit
More than 90 years of aeronautical information. From a notebook of hand-drawn approach sketches, through printed charts for airlines and air forces worldwide, to integrated iPad EFB applications, airport moving maps and navigation data services for avionics. IT-COM is a Jeppesen ForeFlight Qualified Reseller of products and services in Poland – with first deliveries to customers in 1999, cooperation with Jeppesen since 2003 and official agreements continuously since 2006. Scope: business aviation (BA), general aviation (GA), military (MIL) and government (GOV).
Milestones
- 1934The beginning – the “little black book”
Airmail pilot Elrey B. Jeppesen starts recording airport, obstacle and procedure data in a notebook. Fellow pilots soon buy copies – the first Jeppesen charts are born. The company operates in Salt Lake City and, from 1941, in Denver.
- 1945–1960The airline standard
As commercial aviation grows, Jeppesen charts become the worldwide standard for navigation documentation – approach charts, enroute charts and revision service.
- 1961Times Mirror
Jeppesen joins the Times Mirror group, enabling global expansion and larger production.
- 1974Pilot training – Sanderson
The merger with Sanderson adds pilot training materials, known today as Jeppesen manuals and courses.
- 1980s–1990sNavData – data for avionics
Jeppesen NavData becomes the leading navigation database for FMS and GPS receivers. FliteStar and FlightMap flight planning software and VFR publications (including Bottlang for Europe) are developed.
- mid-1990sJeppView – charts on CD-ROM
The first electronic terminal chart library. Pilots print only the charts they need, and updates replace manual page revisions.
- 1999First deliveries in Poland
We complete the first deliveries of Jeppesen products to customers in Poland.
- 2000Boeing
Jeppesen becomes part of Boeing. Early in the decade FliteDeck brings charts with own-ship position into the cockpit, along with the first certified EFB solutions.
- 2003Cooperation with Jeppesen begins
Ongoing cooperation with Jeppesen in navigation aids for military, government, medical and civil aviation: NavData, obstacle data, SafeTaxi, charts and flight planning – on aircraft and in flight simulators.
- 2006IT-COM and Jeppesen – official agreements
The cooperation is formalised with official Jeppesen agreements and continues uninterrupted to this day. Today we act as a Jeppesen ForeFlight Qualified Reseller, supplying documentation, EFB applications and navigation data across the BA, GA, MIL and GOV segments.
- 2007ForeFlight is founded
ForeFlight launches in Houston – an app that, with the arrival of the iPad, will transform flight planning and flying in general and business aviation.
- 2010–2014The iPad era
Tablets replace chart bags. Jeppesen introduces Mobile FliteDeck and, in 2014, FliteDeck Pro – an EFB for professional operators.
- 2017Jeppesen charts in ForeFlight
Since 2017 Jeppesen charts have been available in ForeFlight Mobile – the most popular EFB meets the most recognised navigation documentation.
- 2019One family
Boeing acquires ForeFlight (March 2019). Jeppesen and ForeFlight products are now developed within one group.
- 2025Jeppesen ForeFlight – a standalone company
Following the sale by Boeing (Thoma Bravo), Jeppesen ForeFlight operates as an independent company from 3 November 2025, focused entirely on aeronautical information, EFB and navigation data.
- 2026Jeppesen ends paper chart printing; charts digital only
On 31 October 2026 Jeppesen ended its chart printing services. Charts are delivered digitally – in EFB applications and data services – with files provided for self-printing.
